Gonzalo Muñoz Arroyo
Gonzalo Muñoz Arroyo holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Seville and a Ph.D. in Marine Sciences from the University of Cadiz. Currently, he is an associate professor in the Department of Biology (area of Zoology) at the University of Cadiz, where he has been actively engaged in teaching for the past 19 years. Furthermore, he has served as the scientific coordinator of the MIGRES Foundation, where he directed the Migres Program, a bird migration monitoring program across the Strait of Gibraltar, sponsored by the Environmental Department of the Andalusian Regional Government for ten years.
He has conducted research in various areas, including Ecology and Conservation of Marine and Coastal Birds, Valuation of Ecosystem Services in Coastal Wetlands, Movement Ecology: Migration, Conservation, and Climate Change, as well as Conservation and Management of Marine and Coastal Areas. In recent years, he has led pioneering projects in Spain related to the identification and valuation of ecosystem services in coastal wetlands, bird migration monitoring using radar, and applied work in the conservation of marine birds and protected marine areas. He has published over 30 research papers in internationally indexed scientific journals, as well as in several book chapters. He has been involved in more than 20 research and transfer projects over the last decade.
Regarding teaching, he has initiated and coordinated courses for the Marine Sciences degree (Marine Living Resources Conservation; 4th year) and the Environmental Sciences degree (Management of Natural Spaces and Resources; 3rd year). He has been involved in educational innovation initiatives to promote the use of the English language in university teaching, and he has also taught in English as part of the Erasmus Mundus Master in Water and Coastal Management (WACOMA), as well as delivered various lectures in English and French. He is currently the promotor and coordinator of the Master’s in Conservation and Management of Natural Environments at the University of Cadiz.
